This is the world map. A player can not view the map until they reach the Classical age. Once unlocked, a player can attack other players, game spaces and Barbarians. They also can open trade paths between other friendly players. A player can also find other spots to start a second city, as long as it is not touching any other city or resource tile.
The world map is the map you can access by clicking the map icon.
