Upgrading the Village Centre is required to upgrade other buildings. When a Village Centre is upgraded to a Town Hall, you will still be able to upgrade buildings that require higher levels of the Village Centre. For example, a level 8 Village Centre is needed to make a Logging Camp level 8, but if a Village Centre level 7 is upgraded to a Town Hall immediately, the Logging Camp can still be upgraded as if a Village Centre level 8 was there. A level 1 Town Hall, essentially, is a level 11 Village Centre.

AncientVillageCentre

The Village Centre is the centre of the village. Everything is built around it using surrounding squares and resource squares. As the game advances, you can upgrade it and have other types which allow you to upgrade other aspects of your civilizations, such as levels of resource sites, libraries, population, gold intake, and also how fast you will advance through your current Age. The level of your Centre can affect how fast your construction teams work as well. It is replaced by the City centre in the Classical Age.
