Jagex Games Studio (or Jagex Ltd./Jagex) is an online computer game developer based in Cambridge, UK. They are well-known for being the creators of RuneScape, FunOrb and of course, 8Realms. Jagex also own published games made by other studios, including War of Legends, Undercroft and Planetarion.
History[]
Jagex was founded in 1999 by Andrew and Paul Gower. At the time, their aim was to create quality Java games, hence their former name Java Gaming Experts. Jagex began to gain attention with the launch of RuneScape in January 2001.
When RuneScape grew to tremendous popularity as the number one free online multiplayer game, Jagex began to work on other projects such as FunOrb in 2008. They would later change their name to Just About the Gaming Experience as they would start working on non-Java platforms. For example, they published the game War of Legends which is a flash-based game, and 8Realms is based on HTML.
Future Developments[]
Jagex has recently partnered up with Hasbro to release a game called Transformers Universe in 2012.
